About
Tommy Noble is a saxophonist and composer from the San Francisco Bay Area. He first played the saxophone at age 10 and began his music studies in middle school. He found refuge in jazz music quickly and was inspired by musicians such as Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman and Jackie McLean. He later performed with the SFJazz High School All Stars, playing at the Monterey Jazz Festival, and touring in Brazil. In more recent years he has played with Marcus Shelby, Rodney Whitaker, Micheal Dease, Randy Napoleon, and is currently a part of a Detroit-based residency band the Gathering, which is directed by Rodney Whitaker. He has performed at places like The Detroit Jazz festival, Jazz on the hill at College of San Mateo, the Blue Llama, Cliff Bells, and more. Tommy also performs regularly around Michigan with groups. He has studied with Howard Wiley, Diego Rivera, Walter Blanding Jr., Kasey Knudsen, Randy Napoleon, Michael Dease and Rodney Whitaker. Tommy now attends Michigan State University, working towards a Masters degree in jazz studies. He is also interested in film and art and is experienced in film scoring. He has had an interest in film for many years and continues to immerse himself in it.
